Anu Tuominen

As I told you in my last post, I adore the works of Finnish artist Anu Tuominen. I saw some of them in the Museum of modern art in Espoo called EMMA this summer.
Her artwork is so full of joy, colors and humor. Her pieces seem to tell us to pause for a moment and notice the beauty in our everyday lifes.
Visit her portfolio and be inspired.
I also found a good article about Anu Tuominen on the site of Helsinki's museum of contemporary art KIASMA.

Artworks shown:

Doni's Delis

I was so inspired by the Flickr photostream of Italian weaver Donatella (Doni) Chiesa, that I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you.

In her own words: "I studied weaving in Italy and then I did a course in Bradford - UK - in Textile Design for handwovens, which is quite a popular course among handweavers. It was the place where I really understood how to get inspiration - literally from anything! - and to translate it into fabric with different structures. What I love about weaving is that you create fabric from an idea and the result is always unique and truly yours!"
Find more of Doni's lovely work on her Flickr photostream and blog.

Five Forty: Rag Rugs

Yesterday Re-Nest introduced 10 Things Made from Upcycled Sweaters. That led me to Five Forty, an Etsy shop offering these eco-friendly hand woven rag rugs. They are woven in a special way with recycled textiles used for both warp and weft.
Wouldn't they be perfect beside the bed? They must feel so soft and warm under your toes in the morning.

Aren't these textiles from Inleaf just lovely? Lotta Helleberg, a Swedish native and graphic designer founded Inleaf in 2003. For the printing Lotta coats leafs with fabric paint and presses them onto fabric to create towels, napkins, pillows, totebags and scented sachets. Donna Wilson

Welcome to Donna Wilson's wonderland. Donna is a textile and product designer, her creations are playful, tactile and bright. She uses a lot of color and it's just fun to look at her knitted creatures. On her website there are available knitted products, as furnishings and creatures and also stationery. Besides she designed a range of products that are available at SCP: lovely trays, these wooden dolls called "forest folk" and furniture. Both links are definitely worth a visit to see more of her work.

Hella Jongerius for IKEA

Hella Jongerius designed these lovely wallhangings called Mikkel, Gullspira and Pelle for the IKEA-Unicef programme. Each wallhanging is made from beginning to end by one woman. On the back of the works are the names of IKEA, Hella Jongerius and the embroidered name of the woman who made it.
Check out Hella Jongerius' website for more information about this project and a lot of other really inspiring work.
Below are some scetches by Hella Jongerius. I always enjoy to see work in progress and to get an idea of how designers/artists work.

John Pour Home

I like typography, and it's great, when you can decorate your home with it. You could use for example these typography rugs by John Pour Home. John himself want's to change "the way we think of rugs". His rugs are cut by hand and made of 5 mm thick felt.
I would love to have this doormat, which would welcome my guests with a warm yellow hello.

The home and textile designs of Mette Antero Kjaer

Mette is a danish ceramist and designer of children's clothes. In addition to that she has a beautiful, very light and scandinavian home, where she lives with her husband and her son.
The white walls and floors make a wonderful background to the splashes of colour. The combination of white and colour always inspires me.

Here are some of her cheerful clothes for children, for which she uses vintage fabrics:

Find Mettes blog called Mettes Potteri here , you can buy her children's clothes right here and find her ceramics here.
