Carl Kleiner

I wish you a great weekend with these colorful and happy looking paper collages by Carl Kleiner. I like the geometry and simplicity of the "The Bærtling wannabe" series seen above. In the images below you see pieces of the series "Everyday Geometry". I love his idea of making collages of paper items used in our everyday lifes. To look at them in this way, they get a new kind of beauty.

Knitted lamps by Ilot Ilov

These wonderful lamps Matt (image above) and Ray (image on the bottom) by the german design collective Ilot Ilov are knitted and come with a several meters long cable. They are made for being moved and played with. Definitely they are beautiful and look like fun at the same time. For example it would be fun to create a drawing with the cable on the ceiling or the wall.

Soft mood

Here comes some softness for your eyes. Grey, pink and white tones with some texture to get a comfy and soft feel.
Here we go.
Clockwise from top left: Kirsikkapuu wallpaper designed by Ritva Kronlund in the seventies from Tapettitalo, X is For Kiss print by Restless Things, Bohannon pendant from Das rote Paket, everlasting calendar from Das rote Paket, plaid from H&M Home, Kramfors sofa from IKEA, Savoy vase designed by Alvar Aalto from Iittala, Svarva lamp from IKEA, Mr White wall clock from The Conran Shop.

Arounna Khounnoraj is not only a designer and co-owner of the shop Bookhou, she is also an talented artist and maker of these tactile and colorful sculptures. I'm so in love with these fun and playful pieces. So inspiring!
Her Attachment Series will be shown from March 6 - 31, 2009 in the Rare Device Gallery in San Francisco. I would be so happy, if I could see Arrouna's wonderful work in person.
See more of her work on the website and blog of Bookhou, get more information about the exhibition here

Bookhou

I really like these wooden objects and furniture from Bookhou, run by John Booth and Arounna Khounnoraj. Wood is a great material. It's such a nice way to bring natural and soft tones to your home. I would love to have some of these sweet houses and that beautiful mobile.
Find more of their beautiful products on their website and webshop. If you are visiting or living in Toronto, remember to check out their shop they recently opened in downtown Toronto.

Donna Wilson

Welcome to Donna Wilson's wonderland. Donna is a textile and product designer, her creations are playful, tactile and bright. She uses a lot of color and it's just fun to look at her knitted creatures. On her website there are available knitted products, as furnishings and creatures and also stationery. Besides she designed a range of products that are available at SCP: lovely trays, these wooden dolls called "forest folk" and furniture. Both links are definitely worth a visit to see more of her work.

Hella Jongerius for IKEA

Hella Jongerius designed these lovely wallhangings called Mikkel, Gullspira and Pelle for the IKEA-Unicef programme. Each wallhanging is made from beginning to end by one woman. On the back of the works are the names of IKEA, Hella Jongerius and the embroidered name of the woman who made it.
Check out Hella Jongerius' website for more information about this project and a lot of other really inspiring work.
Below are some scetches by Hella Jongerius. I always enjoy to see work in progress and to get an idea of how designers/artists work.

Ugmonk shirts

Oh my. My interent connection is still not working. It seems to me like a never ending story. Our internet provider has some trouble. But I won't moan. Instead I'm visiting my mom today and using her internet. ;)

I found these shirts from Ugmonk. And they make me smile. Such a great use of typography in them. Simple and fresh. Find these shown shirts and more in their online shop.

Tagged

I have been tagged by Sandra. That is my first time to be tagged, and it's fun.

"Open the 6th picture folder on your computer, open the 6th photo and blog it.
Write something about it. Then tag 6 more people to do the same."

This is a picture from summer several years ago. We were on the ferry from Sweden to Finland. On the deck the ground was covered with patterned plastic mats. And that are my feet...

Only if you like.

P.S. A warm welcome to those of you, who found my blog through Bloesem

Home of Madara and Andris (Zai)

Here comes a little tour through the creative home and working space of Madara and Andris of ZAI. The couple lives with their two cats in an Art Nouveau building in the center of Riga, Latvia.
I'm so in love with their playfull and light interior. You can see the aging of the apartment that adds a romantic feel and patina. I really like the details like the light blue ceiling in the kitchen, the colorfull stickers on the dark wooden floor and the painted headboard.
See more of their home in their flickr set, and find out more about their ZAI bunny leather-toys and other products on their website (in Latvian) and Etsy shop.

Sunday dinner and layout fixing

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We had guests over for dinner, lot's of cooking and doing beforehand and a lovely afternoon with yummy food. That was good.
I'm going to work a littlebit on the layout of my blog, so don't be confused, when the layout might look strange in between.

P.S. I read about the american Jim Haynes living in Paris, who is hosting a dinner for strangers every sunday for the past 30 years. That is an amazing thing. You can call or send Jim an email to book a spot and the first 50 or 60 people who call may come.
Wouldn't that be an inspiring experience meeting people of all ages from all over the world in an little parisian apartment? I defenitely would do it on a trip to Paris.
I found out about Jim Haynes via Danielle from Room Service, who has been visiting his sunday dinner. Here is an interview with Jim at NPR and to book a spot contact him through his homepage.
